인천문화재단의 문화예술지원사업 서해평화예술프로젝트의 선정사업 14개 중 하나인
<평화의 시대, 평화로운 땅> 국제 전시의 대청도 개최를 진심으로 감사하고 축하의 말씀을 드립니다.
국내와 해외의 우수한 작가들을 서해 5도로 초청하여 짧은 기간이나마 한반도의 긴장을 직접 체험하게 하고, 그들에게 자신의 체험을 바탕으로 새로운 작품을 제작하고 발표하는 기회를 제공하는 <평화의 시대, 평화로운 땅> 프로젝트는 한반도 평화 구축 프로세스에 대한 전 지구인들의 지지를 도모하는데 조그나마 기여한다는 점에서 그 의의가 깊다고 생각합니다.
<평화의 시대, 평화로운 땅> 전시는 한반도의 평화 구축 프로세스에 대한 우리 국민의 염원을 재확인하고, 우리에게 일상이 되어버린 긴장과 그 부정적인 여파를 되돌아 볼 수 있게 하는 기회를 제공한다는 점에서, 또 미술작품을 자주 만날 수 없는 우리 대청면민 여러분들께 현대미술을 감상하는 흔치 않은 기회를 제공한다는 점에서 지역적으로도 의미가 충만한 프로젝트입니다.
<평화의 시대, 평화로운 땅> 전시는 앞으로 대청도에서 보다 더 많은 문화예술 사업들이 확산되는 좋은 계기가 될 것입니다. 또한 그 전시는 자주 소외되는 현대미술의 대중화에도 크게 기여할 것으로 기대합니다.
의미 있고 소중한 전시회를 마련해 주신 공동기획 팀 김예미, 이경모, 한행길 감독님들과 대청도를 방문해 주신 작가님들, 그리고 관계자님들께 거듭 감사드리며, 수준 높은 작품 전시를 통하여 대청도와 현대미술이 더욱 사랑 받는 계기가 되기를 바랍니다.

I wish to express my sincere appreciation and congratulations to the international exhibition, An Era of Peace, A Peaceful Land, awarded as one of the fourteen 2018 West Sea Peace Art Projects sponsored by the Incheon Foundation for Art & Culture.
The exhibition invites outstanding domestic and international artists to the five islands of the West Sea, providing them with an opportunity to experience the tensions on the islands for a few days and present new work they create based on their experience. The project is meaningful in its contribution to expanding global communities supporting the peace process on the Korean peninsula.
The Era of Peace and A Peaceful Land is also significant on the local level. It confirms the eagerness of Koreans for the peace process. The exhibition offers an opportunity to reflect on tensions, which have become a part of everyday life in Korea, and as such, these tensions exert negative impacts on everyday life. The exhibition also provides our residents with a rare opportunity to see contemporary art on our island where art exhibitions are seldom offered.
The Era of Peace and A Peaceful Land will become a stepping stone for more arts and cultural events to be offered on the island. It also is anticipated to contribute to introducing more people to contemporary art, which is often seen to be uninteresting and alienating.
I thank the curatorial team, Yemi Kim, Gyeong Mo Lee, and Heng-Gil Han, who organized this meaningful and valuable exhibition, all the artists who visited our island, and the people who worked behind the scenes. I hope this exhibition through its presentation of excellent artwork brings attention to our island and cultivates a greater appreciation for contemporary art.
